Je comprends que les parlementaires européens soient passionnés par ce qu’ils font. Parce que lorsque l’on a la chance, pendant six mois, de connaître et d’avoir à trancher des problèmes de vingt-sept pays, on gagne en tolérance, on gagne en ouverture d’esprit et on comprend que l’Europe, c’est sans doute la plus belle idée qui ait été inventée au XX siècle et que cette Europe on en a plus que jamais besoin.
I understand why MEPs are passionate about what they do, because, when we have an opportunity to spend six months to understand and grapple with the problems of 27 countries, we gain in tolerance, in openness of spirit and in understanding that Europe is without doubt the most beautiful idea invented in the 20th century and that we need this Europe now more than ever. I have tried to make Europe move, but Europe has changed me.
