The observation is that it's always dangerous to go back too far in quoting people's views, as Mr. Benoit did in the context of Mr. Chrétien's 1990 views of Iraq, because if you were to go back to the Reagan period and ask what President Reagan thought of Iraq, you would find that he rather liked it and its president because they were against Iran.
