37. rappelle que le traité de Lisbonne introduit le nouveau droit de lancer une «initiative citoyenne européenne»; souligne la nécessité de supprimer tous les obstacles techniques et bureaucratiques qui continuent d'entraver le recours efficace à l'initiative et encourage la participation active des citoyens à la définition des politiques de l'UE;

Recalls that the Treaty of Lisbon introduced the new right to launch a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI); stresses the need to remove all the technical and bureaucratic barriers still hindering the effective use of the ECI, and encourages active participation by citizens in shaping EU policies;

(z) Calls on Indonesia and the EU to consider starting negotiations on a free trade agreement, in addition to the cooperation called for within the framework of the PCA, with a view to progressively removing major trade barriers, including strengthening the consultations on compliance with WTO rules, promoting the use of international standards on technical barriers to trade, improving the protection of intellectual property rights, increasing the transparency of trade regulations, developing customs cooperation and promoting a non-discriminatory investment regime, and thereby further increasing trade in goods, investment, services and procurement;

35. souligne la nécessité de poursuivre la normalisation et l'harmonisation des pratiques pour surmonter les obstacles techniques et les exigences nationales en matière de règlement et de compensation, afin de continuer à promouvoir les acquisitions transfrontalières, processus qui renforcerait la concurrence, élargirait ainsi les choix offerts aux commerçants et pourrait déboucher sur des méthodes de paiement présentant un meilleur rapport coût-efficacité pour les clients; estime que les commerçants devraient être mieux informés des possibilités en matière d'acquisitions transfrontalières;
35. Points out that further standardisation and alignment of practices, to overcome technical barriers and national settlement and clearing requirements, would contribute to the further promotion of cross-border acquiring, an arrangement which would increase competition and hence the choices available for merchants, and which could result in more cost-efficient payment methods for customers; believes that merchants should be better informed about the cross-border acquiring possibilities;

- Madame la Présidente, je voudrais en quelques mots saluer d'abord le travail de notre collègue Savary, qui se révèle, une fois de plus, un farouche défenseur du rail et du service public, puis, je voudrais dire, à ceux qui ont voté ce rapport, que j'étais, bien entendu, d'accord pour dire qu'on ne peut continuer à accepter que la part du ferroviaire continue à diminuer au profit de la route et qu'on ne peut pas davantage accepter tous les obstacles techniques, voire réglementaires, d'un autre âge à une nécessaire circulation à travers l'ensemble de l'Europe ?
– (FR) Madam President, I should briefly like to pay tribute to the work done by our fellow Member, Mr Savary, who has once again shown himself to be a staunch defender of the railways and of public services. Next I should like to tell the people who voted in favour of this report that I, of course, agreed with saying that it is no longer possible to accept the share of rail transport increasingly losing out to road transport, and that nor is it possible to accept the technical, and even regulatory, obstacles from a bygone age that stand in the way of the much-needed freedom of movement throughout the whole of Europe?
