Autrement dit : souhaitons-nous intégrer davantage le marché intérieur des médicaments afin que les patients de toute l'Europe disposent plus rapidement de nouveaux médicaments sûrs et efficaces, ou bien voulons-nous conserver les procédures d'autorisation extrêmement complexes qui tiennent les nouveaux médicaments hors de portée des patients le plus longtemps possible ?
– (DE) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, in examining the legislation before us, we need to consider whether more EU involvement is needed when it comes to approving innovative medicinal products, or whether the mutual recognition procedure is the best approach. In other words, do we want a more integrated internal market for medicinal products with a view to giving patients throughout Europe swifter access to new, safe and effective medicines, or is the idea that extremely complicated authorisation procedures should continue to keep new medicines out of patients' hands for as long as possible?

Le Parlement a également apporté d’autres améliorations ? la position commune, telle que celle d’obtenir l’autorisation du comité responsable pour les détails techniques complexes et celle d’adapter les seuils de développement techniques. Je voudrais ? nouveau tous les remercier pour le travail qu’ils ont réalisé et qui constitue une nouvelle preuve du sérieux et de la compétence du Parlement, même lorsque les questions traitées et débattues sont d’une extrême technicité, comme c’est le cas aujourd’hui.
Parliament has also contributed to other improvements to the common position, such as the authorisation of the committee responsible for the complex technical details and adapting the thresholds of technical development, and I would like to thank them once again for the work they have done, which has demonstrated once again the seriousness and skill of this Parliament, even when we are dealing with and discussing enormously technical issues, as in this case.
