Reminds the Sudanese authorities of their obligations at national and international level to protect freedom of religion and belief; reaffirms that freedom of religion, conscience and belief is a universal human right that needs to be protected everywhere and for everyone; strongly condemns all forms of violence and intimidation that impair the right to have or not to have, or to adopt, a religion of one’s choice, including the use of threats, physical force or penal sanctions to compel believers or non-believers to renounce their religion or to convert;

34. Recognises freedom of thought, conscience, religion, belief and non-belief, and freedom to practise the religion of one‘s choice and to change religion; condemns any form of discrimination or intolerance, and believes that secularism defined as the strict separation between non-confessional political authorities and religious authorities, as well as the impartiality of the State, are the best means of guaranteeing non-discrimination and equality between religions and between believers and non-believers; calls on the Member States to protect freedom of religion or belief, including the freedom of those without a religion not to suffer discrimination as a result of excessive exemptions for religions from laws on equality and non-discrimination;

Notes that although the events of the Arab Spring were expected to bring pro-democratic transformation, in many cases they resulted in the deterioration of the freedoms and rights of religious minorities; strongly condemns, therefore, all acts of violence against Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other religious communities, along with all kinds of discrimination and intolerance towards religious people, apostates and non-believers on the basis of religion or belief; stresses once again, in line with its earlier resolutions, that freedom of thought, conscience and religion is a fundamental human right;
