It is true that private companies, as well as private natural persons, may from time to time chose to dispose of their finances in a benevolent, charitable or public-spirited way. Such behaviour, however, is very different from the behaviour of investors in a private market economy and therefore cannot be relevant for the comparison of the behaviour of the State with the typical behaviour of a private investor in a market economy.
