As the Commission is no doubt aware, the UK faces the prospect of legal action over Sellafield following an official warning that Ireland could face a Chernobyl-type disaster at the Sellafield plant, and because the UK has refused to release vital technical information on the grounds of confidentiality about a proposed £300 million mixed oxide (MOX) nuclear reprocessing plant in Sellafield. Is the Commission in possession of this information and, if so, under the rules recently agreed by the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission on public access to documents, will the Commission release this information and, if it is in possession of this information but will not grant access now, or in relation to future requests, will it justify its reasons for doing so as required under the agreement?
