In order to improve the coordination and consistency of scientific advice, therefore, the Commission has: * organized additional conferences (two on BSE and one major conference on hormones last year); * set up an ad hoc multidisciplinary committee; unfortunately, the opinions delivered by this committee so far have not lived up to our expectations. Specifically on the question of genetically modified maize, the three scientific committees concerned have also adopted a promising new approach involving all three holding a joint hearing of external experts.
