The Committee has fulfilled the tasks conferred on it by the Directive, and has, in particular, facilitated effective implementation of the Directive; it has delivered opinions, especially under the procedure laid down in Article 3a(2) concerning events of major importance for society (see Point 4.2), and facilitated the exchange of information between Member States and the Commission on the situation and developments in the sector.
