As New Democrats, we say there is that other option and that is what we want to put forward in the debate today, an option which would allow us to ensure that we can in fact respect environmental standards, that we can respect the rights of communities and workers to determine their own future, that we are not locked in to this investor state provision, and that in fact we can make decisions as the representatives of the people of this country, as the representatives of the provinces we live in, about the future of this very precious resource.

S'il n'y a pas, au niveau international, d'agrément sur cette disposition, eh bien, comme vous l'avez souligné fort justement, il faudra bien également que nous travaillions sur une option B. Mais on sera d'autant plus en situation de trouver cette option B que nous aurons nous-mêmes, et suffisamment tôt, des propositions à mettre sur la table dans le cadre de ces négociations internationales.
If no agreement is reached on this aspect at a global level, then, as you quite rightly said, we will have to move on to Plan B. However, we will be in a better position to come up with Plan B if we have proposals to bring to the table at the international negotiations and we have them early enough.
