It is indeed imperative to modernise the EU ICT standardisation policy and to fully exploit the potential of standard setting. Otherwise the EU will fail to master the information society, will not realise a number of important European policy goals which require interoperability such as e-health, accessibility, security, e-business, e-government, transport, etc, and will face obstacles to being a driving force in the development and promotion of international standards for personal data protection as set out in the Communication on the Stockholm programme[4].

j) La Commission propose la mise en place d’une plateforme politique pour la normalisation dans le domaine des TIC; celle-ci aurait un caractère permanent et associerait de nombreux acteurs (avec une composition plus large que le comité SOGITS des États membres mis en place précédemment par la décision 87/95 du Conseil) et son rôle serait de conseiller la Commission sur toutes les questions liées à la politique européenne de normalisation des TIC et à une mise en œuvre efficace.

Stresses the imperative need to adapt ICT standardisation policy to market and policy developments, which will lead to achieving important European policy goals requiring interoperability, such as e-health, accessibility, security, e-business, e-government and transport, and will contribute to the development of standards in support of personal data protection;

7. souligne que la normalisation des TIC fait partie intégrante des activités générales de normalisation et contribue à la réalisation d'objectifs consistant à améliorer la compétitivité de l'industrie européenne, comme le prévoit la stratégie de Lisbonne; est favorable à l'application du programme de travail 2009 pour la normalisation des TIC dans les domaines prioritaires définis: télésanté, participation de tous à la société de l'information, transports intelligents, TIC pour l'environnement, commerce électronique, compétences numériques, apprentissage en ligne, protection des données à caractère personnel, protection de la vie privée, sécurité des réseaux et des informations;
