Article 1a Article 55 of Regulation (EC) No 2200/96 is replaced by the following: "Article 55 For hazelnuts produced in the 1997/1998, 1998/1999, 1999/2000, 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 marketing years, aid of EUR 15/100 kg shall be granted to producer organisations recognised pursuant to Regulation (EEC) No 1035/72 or to this Regulation which have implemented a quality improvement plan within the meaning of Article 14d of Regulation (EEC) No 1035/72 or an operational plan within the meaning of this Regulation".

(1 sexties) L'article 55 du règlement (CE) n 2200/96 du 28 octobre 1996, portant organisation commune des marchés dans le secteur des fruits et légumes , octroie, pour les noisettes récoltées au cours des campagnes 1997/98, 1998/99 et 1999/2000 une aide forfaitaire aux organisations de producteurs reconnues qui mettent en œuvre un plan d'amélioration de la qualité et de la commercialisation de leurs produits ou un programme opérationnel pour faire face à la conjoncture particulièrement défavorable que traverse ce secteur.
(1e) Article 55 of Council Regulation (EC) No 2200/96 of 28 October 1996 on the common organisation of the market in fruit and vegetables( ) grants flat-rate aid for hazelnuts harvested during the 1997/1998, 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 marketing years to recognised producer organisations which implement a quality improvement and marketing plan for their produce or an operational plan to cope with the particularly unfavourable circumstances affecting that sector.

L'Italie et l'Espagne sont les principaux producteurs, suivis de la Grèce, du Portugal et de la France.
A peak production level of 1.7 million tonnes was reached in 1997/98, but recent marketing years have seen supply stabilising at around 1.5 million tonnes and an increase in consumption in the Community, where the leading producers are Italy and Spain, followed by Greece, Portugal and France.
