Selon les informations d’Amnesty International, Mme Irene Fernandez, dont l’organisation «Tenaganita» défend de façon pacifique les droits des travailleurs migrants en Malaisie, vient d’être condamnée avec sursis à douze mois d’emprisonnement et de restriction des droits civils pour «publication de fausses nouvelles avec intention de nuire», à la suite d’un rapport établi par l’organisation «Tenaganita» dénonçant les mauvais traitements infligés à des travailleurs migrants illégaux dans les centres de détention de Malaisie.
According to Amnesty International, Irene Fernandez, whose organisation Tenaganita peacefully promotes the rights of migrant workers in Malaysia, has been given a suspended 12 month imprisonment and civil rights restricted on a charge of ‘maliciously publishing false news’ after Tenaganita reported on allegations of mistreatment of undocumented migrant workers in Malaysian detention centres.

What steps is the Council Presidency taking to secure Irene Fernandez’s freedom and ensure the human rights of migrants and of human rights defenders in Malaysia are protected?

Je félicite, une fois encore, Mme Fraga, pour son excellent rapport, qui met clairement en exergue que, parmi les accords de pêche signés par les PVD avec des pays tiers, ce sont ceux que les PVD signent avec l'Union européenne qui atteignent et garantissent un meilleur niveau de transparence et de contrôle des activités de pêche dans ces régions.
I congratulate Mrs Fraga Estevez once again on her excellent report which clearly demonstrates that, of the fisheries agreements signed by the developing countries with third countries, it is those which they sign with the European Union which achieve and guarantee a greater degree of transparency and control of fishing activities in those areas.
