Le Conseil européen de Lisbonne a demandé que le brevet communautaire soit disponible pour la fin de l'année 2001; la Commission a adopté la proposition de règlement sur le brevet communautaire le 5 juillet 2000.
The Lisbon European Council asked for the Community patent to be available by the end of 2001, and the Commission adopted the proposal for a Regulation on the Community patent on 5 July 2000.

On the other hand, we also believe that people should be able to put forward a patent claim in their own language. We then believe that it should be translated into all the other languages – not the whole process but just, as it says in Amendment No 20(c), "issued in the language of submission and in the official language in which the procedure has been carried out, accompanied by translation of the patent claims and of a short abstract in the other official languages of the Community", and then paragraph (d), "translations shall be performed by the Translation Centre for the bodies of the European Union and costs borne by the European Union".
