- The objective of a Community Patent that is simple, cheap and reliable has proved difficult to attain, but has recently become much closer through the adoption by the Council of a common political approach on the main elements of the Community patent. The advantages are clear: estimated annual savings in processing and administering intellectual property rights of around EUR0.5 billion, lower litigation costs and simpler enforcement [29].
