9. rappelle l'importance du maintien d'une activité agricole et forestière forte et économiquement compétitive pour assurer la préservation des paysages et de la biodiversité en Europe; souligne le fait que la sous-utilisation et l'abandon de terres agricoles peuvent avoir des conséquences désastreuses pour l'environnement naturel; demande à cet égard que le budget de la PAC après 2013 soit au moins maintenu à son niveau actuel afin de garantir la vitalité des zones rurales et la pérennité des pratiques agricoles en Europe;
9. Reiterates the importance of maintaining strong and economically competitive agriculture and forestry so as to preserve Europe’s landscapes and biodiversity; highlights that the under-use and abandonment of agricultural land can have disastrous consequences for the natural environment, in this connection calls for the CAP budget after 2013 to, at the very least, be maintained at the current level in order to ensure the vitality of rural areas and the continuation of agricultural practices in Europe;

33. estime que les progrès réalisés dans la mise en œuvre du plan d'action en faveur de la biodiversité visant à mettre fin à l'appauvrissement de la biodiversité en Europe pour 2010 sont très lents et que les effets sociaux et économiques négatifs de l'appauvrissement de la biodiversité et de la dégradation des services écosystémiques sont perceptibles dès à présent; demande, par conséquent, à la Commission de faire de la mise en œuvre du plan d'action en faveur de la biodiversité, de la protection des écosystèmes et de ses aspects relatifs à l'eau, aux sols et à la biodiversité, la base d'une stratégie communautaire d'adaptation;
33. Considers that the progress in implementing the Biodiversity Action Plan to halt biodiversity loss in Europe by 2010 is very slow and that the negative social and economic impacts of biodiversity loss and declining ecosystem services are already being felt; asks the Commission, therefore, to promote the implementation of the Biodiversity Action Plan and the protection of ecosystems and its water, soil and biodiversity components as the foundation for an EU adaptation strategy;

13. souligne l'importance dévolue aux questions de santé publique et à la protection de la biodiversité au regard de l'objectif ambitieux consistant à inverser d'ici 2010 l'appauvrissement de la biodiversité en Europe et dans le monde, et propose que ces deux questions soient ajoutées au nombre des thèmes cruciaux relevant de la stratégie en faveur du développement durable, ou qu'elles fassent tout au moins l'objet d'une attention particulière dans des sections spécifiquement consacrées à la santé et la gestion des ressources naturelles;
13. Emphasises the importance of public health issues and protecting biodiversity in the light of the ambitious objective of reversing by 2010 the loss of biodiversity in Europe and the world, and suggests that these either be added as a new key issue within the SDS or, at least, be given special emphasis within specific sections on health and management of natural resources;
