À la suite d'une demande de McNeil Nutritionals et de Raisio Nutrition Ltd, introduite conformément à l'article 14, paragraphe 1, point a), du règlement (CE) no 1924/2006, il a été demandé à l'Autorité de rendre un avis sur une allégation de santé concernant la consommation de 2 g/jour de phytostanols (esters de phytostanols) dans le cadre d'un régime alimentaire pauvre en graisses saturées, qui aurait pour effet de réduire les concentrations de cholestérol LDL dans le sang deux fois plus que ne le permettrait un simple régime pauvre en graisses saturées (no de question: EFSA-Q-2012-00915) (10).
Following an application from McNeil Nutritionals and Raisio Nutrition Ltd, submitted pursuant to Article 14(1)(a) of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006, the Authority was required to deliver an opinion on a health claim related to the consumption of 2 g/day of plant stanols (as plant stanol esters) as part of a diet low in saturated fat and a two-fold greater reduction in blood LDL-cholesterol concentrations compared to the consumption of a diet low in saturated fat alone (Question No EFSA-Q-2012-00915) (10).
