Je voudrais cependant poser trois questions à la commissaire: quel volume de PCB est encore en circulation aujourd’hui? Pouvez-vous nous garantir qu’aucune contamination de la chaîne alimentaire aux PCB n’aura lieu au cours des 23 prochains mois, au terme desquels ils seront totalement éliminés? La Commission présentera-t-elle un rapport sur l’état d’avancement de la mise en œuvre du règlement sur l’hygiène des aliments pour animaux, dont ce Parlement voudrait être informé?
– Madam President, I have tried not to be judge and jury on this Irish case, because that is not why we are here tonight, but I would like to ask the Commissioner three questions: what volume of PCBs is still in circulation; can you guarantee that none of these will contaminate the food chain in the next 23 months, when they are still in the process of disposal; and would the Commission present a report on the status of implementation of the Feed Hygiene Regulation, which this House would like to hear?

The proposal for a Directive on Waste from Electric and Electronic Equipment, which is now being discussed by Council and the European Parliament, will certainly have a strong impact on the separate collection and environmentally sound disposal of electrical equipment containing PCBs, as it contains an explicit obligation of segregation of the hazardous components of electric and electronic equipment before any subsequent treatment is applied.
