Underlines that investing in effective transport infrastructure has a key role for Europe to defend its competitiveness and pave the way for post crisis, long term economic growth; believes that the Trans-European transport networks (TEN-T) are vital in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the internal market and provide important EAV as they contribute to improving accessibility and interoperability between the various parts of the EU by guaranteeing cross-border links and eliminating bottlenecks, improving the use of traffic management and information systems, as well as assuring intermodality in cross-border infrastructure, which the Member States alone would not invest in; considers that the TEN-T should provide a genuine European core network rather than the aggregation of national projects and that the financing of core projects should be assessed and reviewed in the light of progress on the ground and EAV; strongly believes that TEN-T should, accordingly, be a key priority in the next MFF;

– (SK) Monsieur le Président, lorsqu’on se penche sur l’histoire de l’intégration européenne, lorsqu’on examine le système institutionnel et le fonctionnement actuels de l’UE, on s’aperçoit que l’Union ne se réduit pas à un groupement d’États, mais qu’elle est plutôt une enceinte politique qui a toutes les capacités pour donner naissance à un authentique espace public européen.
