Je crois que M. Asselin a clairement indiqué l'importance de la neutralité du poste du vérificateur général, c'est-à-dire l'importance d'avoir une personne qui ne soit pas influencée ou partisane, si on peut utiliser ce terme, d'avoir une personne qui ait la liberté de choisir les sujets qu'elle veut étudier, tout en tenant compte, évidemment, des recommandations que les parlementaires peuvent lui faire et de l'intérêt qu'ils pourraient porter à certains sujets.
I think that Mr. Asselin has clearly indicated how important it is that the auditor general's position be a neutral one, how important it is that he or she not be influenced or partisan, if we may use that term, that he or she be free to decide what issues to examine, bearing in mind, obviously, any recommendations which parliamentarians might make and their interest in certain topics.
