In order to allow the yards to continue operating and avoid an extremely costly halt to shipbuilding work, the BvS, with the financial backing of the Land of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, granted the two yards a series of loans totalling nearly DM 300 million, some DM 250 million of which had been disbursed by the end of October.
