Reiterates its commitment and that of the European Union as a whole to closer relations with Asia, welcomes the Commission's desire, expressed in its communication on the Republic of Korea, to promote North Korean engagement internationally, and considers that EU membership of KEDO does contribute to this through showing solidarity with the Republic of Korea and with Japan (which has after all contributed very significant sums to supplement EU and US efforts in Bosnia) and helps in a practical way to increase security in East Asia;
