As I said, with a somewhat troubled heart, I had the pleasure of reading a number of encyclicals by His Holiness John Paul II. At the time, I even defended some of the pope's positions to my friends and acquaintances because the pope was very controversial in Quebec at that time.

Je félicite le travail réalisé par mon ami Jean-Paul Gauzès, rapporteur pour avis pour la commission des affaires juridiques et il a raison de souligner l’importance des analyses d’impact pour toute nouvelle législation, ou modification législative significative, européenne qui sont faîtes de manière très insuffisante par la Commission européenne.
I would like to congratulate my colleague, Mr Gauzès, draftsman of the opinion of the Committee on Legal Affairs, on his work. He is right to highlight the importance of impact analyses for completely new European legislation or significant legislative amendment, which are carried out in a highly unsatisfactory manner by the Commission.
