Commission's approach on the urban future-Urban policy in the making I could summarise the approach of the Commission on the urban future, under five headings: - Continuation and strengthening of the financial support to cities which belong to regions or areas which are eligible under the Structural Funds. - Continuation of the support for pilot actions which can also serve as examples to be diffused to other cities and promotion of networks of exchange of experience and cooperation. - Further introduction of the urban dimension in the formulation of the various Community policies. - Further research on issues linked to urban problems. - A continuing dialogue with cities and their organisations.

To that end it put measures in hand to simplify the procedures for submitting and managing projects in order to take account of the difficulties SMEs have encountered in the past (1) - Brite/Euram feasibility awards: part-funding of the costs of preparing projects - Euromanagement RTD: an RTD audit aimed at identifying the SMEs liable to take part in Community research programmes and helping them to prepare proposals; - CRAFT (Cooperative Research Action for Technology): support for work carried out by research centres for consortia of SMEs who lack the necessary research facilities; - Eurotech capital: a pilot scheme to stimulate inflows of risk capital for transnational high-technology projects; - Value (Programme for the dissemination and utilization of results) Support for the dissemination of the results of all the research programmes, including the setting up of databases, information centres and partnerships between research and industry; - Sprint (Strategic Programme for Innovation and Technology Transfer) Dissemination of new technologies, particularly through the interlinking of networks and national infrastructures.
