Second, it is apparent from the regulation that an air carrier is not required to pay compensation in the event of cancellation of a flight due to ‘extraordinary circumstances’, that is, those which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

En cas d’annulation d’un vol, les passagers se voient offrir, en vertu de ce règlement, par le transporteur aérien le choix entre le remboursement du billet et le réacheminement vers leur destination finale. The passengers are also entitled to free ‘care’ (meals and refreshments, telephone calls and, in some circumstances, hotel accommodation) and to compensation the amount of which varies according to flight distance. Last week the Canadian Transportation Agency exempted British owned Air 2000 from many of the regulations prohibiting foreign airlines from flying Canadian passengers to a third country.

Transports Canada veillera à l'application de ce règlement et le fera respecter tout comme il le fait actuellement dans le cas du règlement sur les transporteurs aériens.
The regulations will be monitored and applied by Transport Canada in the same way as air carrier regulations are currently.
