La décision relative au futur arrangement international sur les forêts, qui sera prise en mai 2005 lors de la 5e session du Forum des Nations unies sur les forêts, pourra à cet égard jouer un rôle important.
In this respect, the decision on the future international arrangement on forests, which will be taken at the 5th session of the UNFF in May 2005, will be significant.

Reconnaissant que, depuis 1992, le dialogue sur une politique forestière internationale a été facilité par le Groupe intergouvernemental sur les forêts (GIF), le Forum intergouvernemental sur les forêts (FIF) et, depuis la création de l'arrangement international sur les forêts (AIF) en 2000, par le Forum des Nations unies sur les forêts (FNUF), qui tous ont apporté des contributions précieuses à l'instauration d'un consensus sur un grand nombre d'éléments de la politique forestière et la gestion durable des forêts en particulier, essentiellement grâce aux propositions d'action du GIF/FIF et à la création du Partenariat de collaboration sur les forêts; notant également la contribution apportée à la politique forestière internationale par d'autres processus et accords en la matière;

Recognising that, since 1992, the international forest policy dialogue has been facilitated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Forests (IPF), the Intergovernmental Forum on Forests (IFF) and, since the creation of the International Arrangement on Forests (IAF) in 2000, by the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), which have made valuable contributions towards building consensus on a large number of elements of forest policy and SFM in particular, most notably through the IPF/IFF Proposals for Action and the inception of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF); also noting the contribution made to international forest policy by other forest related processes and agreements;

The precision values referred to in 1 (e) shall either be obtained from a collaborative trial which has been conducted in accordance with an internationally recognised protocol on collaborative trials (e.g. ISO 5725:1994 or the IUPAC International Harmonised Protocol) or, where performance criteria for analytical methods have been established, be based on criteria compliance tests.

2. Le Conseil se félicite de la résolution E/2000/L.35 de l'ECOSOC, qui définit les buts, les objectifs et les principales fonctions de l'arrangement international sur les forêts, crée le Forum des Nations Unies sur les forêts (FNUF) et préconise la mise en place d'un Partenariat de collaboration sur les forêts (PCF) entre les organismes du système des Nations Unies et les autres organisations, institutions et instruments compétents.
2. The Council welcomes the ECOSOC Resolution E/2000/L.35, which sets out the goals, objectives and principal functions of the international arrangement on forests and establishes the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) and calls for the formation of a Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) between the relevant organisations of the United Nations system and other relevant international and regional organisations, institutions and instruments.

(17) La Commission et les États membres devraient coopérer avec d'autres organes internationaux actifs dans le domaine de la surveillance des forêts au niveau international ou paneuropéen, et notamment avec le programme de coopération international sur l'évaluation et la surveillance des effets de la pollution atmosphérique sur les forêts (ci-après dénommé "PCI forêts"), de manière à promouvoir la conservation et la protection des forêts dans l'intérêt du développement durable.
(17) The Commission and the Member States should cooperate with other international bodies in the field of forest monitoring at an international or pan-European level, and, in particular, the international cooperative programme on assessment and monitoring of air pollution effects on forests (hereinafter referred to as "ICP Forests"), in order to promote conservation and protection of forests for the benefit of sustainable development.

(5) La Communauté et les États membres se sont engagés à mettre en oeuvre les activités relatives à la conservation et à la protection des forêts et approuvées dans des enceintes internationales, et notamment les propositions d'actions du groupe intergouvernemental sur les forêts et du forum intergouvernemental sur les forêts, le programme de travail élargi sur la diversité biologique des forêts de la convention sur la diversité biologique, ainsi que la convention-cadre des Nations unies sur les changements climatiques et le protocole de Kyoto.
(5) The Community and the Member States are committed to implementing internationally agreed activities relating to the conservation and protection of forests, in particular, the proposals for actions of the intergovernmental panel and Forum on Forests, the expanded work programme on forest biological diversity of the Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.

La Présidence entend suivre les actions que prévoit la stratégie forestière pour l'Union européenne, laquelle vise à développer le secteur et à promouvoir une gestion durable des forêts ainsi qu'à assurer une concertation accrue des positions de l'Union européenne et de ses Etats membres dans le cadre du dialogue international sur les forêts.
The Presidency intends to monitor the actions envisaged by the forestry strategy for the European Union, which is intended to develop the sector and promote sustainable management of forests and provide greater coordination of the positions of the European Union and its Member States in the international dialogue on forests.
