Deplores the serious irregularities in the trial of former President Mohamed Nasheed; calls on all sides to work together for repairing the negative consequences of these irregularities with the aim of ensuring that justice prevail in a free, fair and transparent process; calls on the judicial authorities concerned to facilitate the filing of an appeal by Mr Nasheed; insists that should his conviction be appealed, Mr Nasheed’s rights must be fully respected in line with the Maldives’ international obligations, its own national constitution, and international standards; urges the EU Delegation to Sir Lanka and the Maldives to follow closely the appeal process;

P. considérant que le 30 mars 2015, le Parlement a adopté un amendement à la loi maldivienne sur les prisons et les libérations conditionnelles qui empêche les personnes purgeant une peine de prison de rester membre d'un parti, ce qui obligera de facto M. Nasheed, une des personnalités politiques les plus virulentes de l'opposition, à se retirer de la scène politique; que la condamnation de M. Nasheed pour terrorisme l'empêchera de participer aux élections présidentielles de 2018;
P. whereas on 30 March 2015 the Parliament adopted an amendment to the Maldives Prison Parole Act disqualifying those serving a prison term from holding the membership of any party which will de facto remove Mr Nasheed, one of the most vocal opposition politicians, from active politics and whereas the terrorism conviction bars Mr Nasheed from contesting the presidential elections in 2018;
