PALOP COUNTRIES Regional centres for 7TH EDF - ECU 3 480 000 training health workers GRANT The PALOP regional programme was signed on 29 June 1992 by the European Community and the five Portuguese-speaking countries that are signatories to the Lomé Convention (Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe. The programme comprises seven measures: - Training of public sector health workers in Maputo (M); - Training of nurses and senior nurses in Luanda (A); - Reviving the education system in Sao Tome (STP); - Training lower category statistical staff in Bissau (GB); - Training civil servants and business managers in Praia (CV); - Institution for the promotion of exports and investments in Luanda (A); - A Portuguese language bibliography in Maputo (M). The general aims of these projects are to provide all five countries with more people capable of taking charge of matters concerning public health and to bring about an improvement in the long term in the ability to cope with problems arising in the running and management of the 385 local health districts.
