IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

8. appelle l’attention sur les nombreuses pétitions qui dénoncent les restrictions à la liberté des médias et appelle la Commission à confier à l’Agence des droits fondamentaux la charge de contrôler et d’examiner la législation dans ce domaine pour s’assurer que des normes communes en matière de pluralisme et de liberté des médias soit appliquées, ainsi que de surveiller la situation en matière de démocratie et de droits fondamentaux dans les États membres, et de faire rapport chaque année sur les résultats de ses travaux; demande par conséquent que des financements appropriés soient alloués à l’Agence pour lui permettre d’exécuter ces tâches; se félicite du rapport d’initiative élaboré par le Parlement sur un ensemble de normes pour la liberté des médias à travers l’Union, qui pourrait conduire à réviser la législation de l’Union, et suggère que l’Agence et l’institut européen pour l’égalité entre les hommes et les femmes soient fusionnés ou qu’un cadre juridique soit créé permettant une coopération et une coordination étroites entre ces deux organismes, afin de lutter efficacement contre les violations des droits garantis par la charte des droits fondamentaux;

Draws attention to the number of petitions that concern restrictions on the freedom of the media , and calls on the Commission to task the Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) to monitor and study the legislation in this field to ensure that common standards for media pluralism and media freedom are applied, as well as to monitor the situation on democracy and fundamental rights in the Member States, with annual reports on its findings; requests. consequently, that adequate funding should be allocated to the FRA to perform these tasks; welcomes the own-initiative report by Parliament on setting standards for media freedom across the EU, which could lead to a review of EU legislation, and suggests that the FRA and the European Institute for Gender Equality should be merged. or that a legal framework be created providing for close cooperation and coordination between these two agencies, in order to combat in an effective way violations of rights guaranteed by the Charter of Fundamental Rights;

The initiative to create a European Law Institute – promoted by the Commission in its action plan for delivering an area of freedom, security and justice for Europe's citizens (IP/10/447) – draws inspiration from the American Law Institute, a non-governmental body that played a crucial role in developing the Uniform Commercial Code, which facilitates sales and other commercial transactions across the United States’ 50 states.

9. invite les États membres à créer des instances nationales de suivi des médias comportant un service spécifique consacré à l'égalité des genres et disposant des compétences nécessaires pour recevoir les plaintes du public, décerner des récompenses aux médias et aux publicitaires respectant l'égalité des genres, étudier et faire rapport sur la question des femmes dans les médias et effectuer un suivi systématique des images de genre dans les contenus médiatiques; ajoute que le futur institut européen du genre pourra également entreprendre des recherches dans ce domaine;

Calls on Member States to establish national media monitoring bodies with a specific gender equality branch and expertise in order to receive complaints from the public, to grant gender equality awards to media and advertisement professionals, to study and report on the question of women in the media and to carry out regular, systematic monitoring of gender images in media content. In addition, research may be undertaken by the future European Gender Institute;

41. se félicite de l'analyse préliminaire effectuée par l'Institut européen de la communication dans le cadre d'une étude plus large sous le titre "the information of the citizen in the EU: obligations for the media and the Institutions concerning the citizen's right to be fully and objectively informed" , qui passe en revue un échantillon représentatif de pays, dont des grands États membres et des petits États membres, et prend des exemples en Scandinavie, en Europe du Sud et en Europe de l'Est pour rendre compte des divers systèmes reflétant les différentes traditions de l'utilisation des médias, et se réjouit que l'étude finale, à paraître en juin, contiendra des conclusions comparatives reposant sur la situation des vingt-cinq États membres actuels et nouveaux de l'UE, ainsi que des recommandations complètes;
