Le 29 octobre dernier, a été constituée l’Eurorégion Pyrénées - Méditerranée (Catalogne, Aragon, Iles Baléares, Midi-Pyrénées et Languedoc-Roussillon) comme espace de coopération entre régions, en particulier dans le domaine des infrastructures ferroviaires, aéronautiques, logistiques, de l’innovation et de la recherche, laissant la porte ouverte à de nouvelles régions.
On 29 October 2004, the Pyrenées-Mediterranean Euroregion was established, comprising Catalonia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Midi-Pyrenées and Languedoc-Roussillon, as an area of inter-regional cooperation on railway infrastructure, aeronautics, logistics, innovation and research, and with the stated intention of opening its doors to new regions.

À cet égard, quel rôle l’Union européenne attribuera-t-elle à cette Eurorégion et, plus concrètement, quelle sera sa participation dans la définition des politiques communautaires et quelle capacité de gestion et de contrôle lui sera conférée en ce qui concerne les fonds communautaires qui sont et qui devront être affectés à la promotion et au développement régional, concrètement à l’Eurorégion Pyrénées - Méditerranée?
What role will the European Union acknowledge this Euroregion as having, and more specifically, what involvement will the EU give it in joining up Community policies? What management and monitoring powers will the EU grant it with regard to Community funding already granted and to be granted to the regional promotion and development of the Pyrenées-Mediterranean Euroregion?

Je voudrais demander à M. le président en exercice du Conseil s’il pense que les Eurorégions comme l’Eurorégion Pyrénées-Méditerranée sont fondamentales, tant en ce qui concerne la promotion de la disparition des frontières qui constituent un obstacle au développement économique et social, qu’en ce qui concerne l’application du principe de cohésion territoriale, lequel est désormais inscrit dans la Constitution européenne signée par les 25 représentants des gouvernements de États membres et qui, par conséquent, mérite d’être soutenu activement par l’Union.
I would like to ask the President-in-Office of the Council whether he believes that Euroregions such as the Pyrenees-Mediterranean are fundamental, both in terms of promoting the disappearance of the borders which represent barriers to economic and social development, and in terms of giving substance to the principle of territorial cohesion, which is now enshrined in the European Constitution, which has been signed by the 25 representatives of the Governments of the Member States, and which therefore deserves every possible support from the Union?
