7. Condemns the use of stoning and any form of cruel and degrading punishment, more especially in countries that apply sharia law, which is a violation of fundamental human rights; expresses its indignation at the trial in Dubai of Touria Touali for ‘adulterous sexual relations’ when she was in fact the victim of a triple rape; calls on the Council, the Commission and the Member States to intercede with the Dubai authorities to halt the proceedings against Touria Touali and pass sentence on her rapists;

La neuvième session du Conseil conjoint institué conformément à l'accord de coopération entre les pays parties à la Charte du Conseil de coopération des pays arabes du Golfe (Emirats arabes unis, Bahreïn, Arabie saoudite, Oman, Qatar et Koweït), d'une part, et la Communauté européenne, d'autre part, s'est tenue à Doubaï, Emirats arabes unis, le 2 novembre 1999.
1. The ninth session of the Joint Council established in accordance with the Cooperation Agreement between the countries parties to the Charter of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait) on the one hand, and the European Community on the other hand, was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 2 November 1999.

Le Conseil conjoint a pris note des activités mentionnées et a souligné qu'il importait de mettre en oeuvre rapidement les projets restants, dont l'atelier UE-CCG sur la pollution atmosphérique, l'extension à d'autres Etats de la région du projet de réserve naturelle marine créée à Doubaï (Arabie saoudite) ainsi que l'élaboration du protocole régional sur la biodiversité et sur les zones marines protégées dans la région du Golfe.
The Joint Council took note of reported activities, and underlined the importance of early implementation of remaining projects, including the EU-GCC workshop on Air Pollution, the extension of the Wildlife Sanctuary project at Al-Jubail, Saudi Arabia to other states in the Gulf region, and preparing the Regional Protocol on Biodiversity and Marine Protected Areas in the Gulf Region.

En ce qui concerne la coopération entre entreprises, le Conseil conjoint a pris acte du retard pris dans l'organisation, à Doubaï, de la deuxième rencontre Interprise CE-CCG et il a invité la Commission et la Fédération des chambres de commerce du CCG à rechercher une formule de coopération qui soit adaptée aux besoins spécifiques des PME du CCG et de l'UE.
Regarding business cooperation, the Joint Council took note of the delay in organising the second EC-GCC Interprise event in Dubai and called upon the Commission and the Federation of GCC Chambers to look for a model of cooperation adapted to the specific needs of GCC and EU SME's.

Le Conseil a défini la position que prendra l'UE lors du 9ème Conseil conjoint UE-CCG qui se tiendra à Doubaï le 2 novembre 1999.
The Council established the position to be taken by the EU at the 9th EU-GCC Joint Council which will be held in Dubai on 2 November 1999.
