Regrets the fact that the Doha WTO Conference did not address the issue of patenting living things when the TRIPS agreement was being negotiated, since it considers that that agreement, which enables life forms and natural processes to be protected by means of a patent (Article 27(3b)), constitutes a threat not only to biological diversity but also to the rights and the survival of local populations; calls, therefore, for the TRIPS agreement to be thoroughly revised so as to ensure that all living organisms and their constituent elements are excluded from its scope and for the provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity which relate to national sovereignty, fully informed prior consent and profit-sharing to be observed;
