Lors de la réunion de novembre 2002 du Comité des mesures sanitaires et phytosanitaires (SPS) de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce (OMC), les États-Unis, le Canada, l'Argentine et les Philippines ont à nouveau exprimé leurs préoccupations face à la manière dont l'Union continue de traiter l'approbation des nouveaux OGM et au sujet de la compatibilité avec les règles de l'OMC de la législation européenne nouvelle et à venir, à savoir les propositions de la Commission relatives à la traçabilité et à l'étiquetage des OGM ainsi qu'aux denrées alimentaires et aux aliments pour animaux génétiquement modifiés.
At the November 2002 meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Agreement (SPS), the US, Canada, Argentina and the Philippines again raised their concerns regarding the EU's continued handling of the approval of new GMOs and on the WTO compatibility of new and forthcoming European legislation, namely the Commission proposals on the traceability and labelling of GMOs and on GM food and feed.

La Commission préconise également un déliement intégral de l'aide alimentaire (celle-ci étant exclue du champ d'action de la recommandation du CAD) et de son acheminement, et propose d'introduire ces éléments dans les renégociations de la convention de l'aide alimentaire approuvée par les membres du Comité de l'aide alimentaire (Argentine, Australie, Canada, Communauté européenne et ses États membres, Japon, Norvège, Suisse et États-Unis).
The Commission also advocates untying all food aid (which is excluded from the scope of the DAC recommendation) and its delivery, and proposes including these points in the renegotiation of the Food Aid Convention approved by the members of the Food Aid Committee (Argentina, Australia, Canada, the European Community and its Member States, Japan, Norway, Switzerland and the United States).

Expresses its disappointment at the lack of progress in joint celebrations of common historic events and figures with neighbouring EU Member States, which would contribute to a better understanding of history and good neighbourly relations; encourages the establishment of joint expert committees on history and education with Bulgaria and Greece, with the aim of contributing to an objective, fact-based interpretation of history, strengthening academic cooperation and promoting positive attitudes in young people towards their neighbours;

During the recent celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats paid tribute to the key role played by the United States in laying the foundations for what was to become the European Union, as, without the support of the Marshall Plan and without the decisive role played by the United States and Canada within the framework of NATO, the reconstruction of Europe would no doubt not have been possible.

Minutes shall be agreed upon by those persons selected from each side to chair the meeting jointly, and shall, together with the report, be made available to the Joint Cooperation Committee established under the 1976 Framework Agreement on Commercial and Economic Cooperation between the European Community and Canada as well as appropriate Ministers of each Party.
