Believes that, at European and international level, the Commission should promote and coordinate codes of conduct and other self-regulatory approaches by bringing together the whole gamut of providers - public service and private broadcasters, t
elephone companies, video retailers, computer games distributors, the music and film industry and publishers - and bodies interested in the welfare and education of children; further considers that the Internet should be largely self-policing and encourages the Commission also to involve Internet service provi
ders and the credit card companies ...[+++] in campaigns to improve the protection of minors surfing the world-wide web and participating in Internet chat lines, inter alia through the agency of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF); is van mening dat de Commissie op Europees en internationaal niveau gedragscodes en andere vormen van zelfregulering moet bevorderen en coördineren door alle aanbieders - publieke en commerciële omroep, telefoonmaatschappijen, videoproducenten, distributeurs van computerspelletjes, muziek- en filmindustrie en uitgevers - en instanties die betrokken zijn bij het welzijn en het onderwijs van kinderen samen te brengen; is verder van mening dat het Internet grotendeels zelfcontrolerend moet zijn en spoort de Commissie ertoe aan om ook Internetproviders en creditcardmaatschappijen te betrekken bij campagnes ter bevordering van de bescherming van minderjarig
