TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

14. Welcomes the adoption of legislation removing all restrictions on broadcasting in the Kurdish language by private and public channels both at local and national level, as well as of legislation on the use of the Kurdish language in prisons; urges the Government to take further measures ensuring real opportunities to learn Kurdish within the public and private schooling system and allowing Kurdish to be used in political life and in access to public services; calls on the Government to make sure that anti-terror laws are not misused to restrict fundamental freedoms, in particular freedom of expression, and to abolish the system of village guards in the south-east of Turkey;

18. Calls on the Turkish government to launch as a matter of priority a political initiative favouring a lasting settlement of the Kurdish issue, which initiative needs to address the economic and social opportunities of citizens of Kurdish origin, and to tangibly improve their cultural rights, including real possibilities to learn Kurdish within the public and private schooling system and to use it in broadcasting and in access to public services, and to allow elected officials to use a second language apart from Turkish in communicating with their constituents; welcomes the start of a 24-hour public television channel in the Kurdish language from 1 January 2009;
18. dringt er bij de Turkse regering op aan om met grote spoed een politiek initiatief te lanceren ten gunste van een duurzame regeling van de Koerdische kwestie, teneinde de economische en sociale mogelijkheden van burgers van Koerdische origine te vergroten en hun culturele rechten duidelijk te verbeteren, met inbegrip van reële mogelijkheden om Koerdisch te leren op openbare en particuliere scholen en deze taal te gebruiken in de omroep, en bij de toegang tot openbare diensten, en om gekozen vertegenwoordigers toe te staan om naast het Turks een tweede taal te gebruiken om met de mensen in hun kiesdistrict te communiceren; juicht het toe dat sinds 1 januari 2009 een openbare televisiezender in de Koerdische taal dag en nacht in de lucht is;

12. Urges the Turkish government to launch, as a matter of priority, a political initiative favouring a lasting settlement of the Kurdish issue, which can only be based on tangible improvements in the cultural, economic and social opportunities available to citizens of Kurdish origin, including real possibilities to learn Kurdish within the public and private schooling system and to use it in broadcasting, in daily life and in access to public services; regards a possible banning of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) as counterproductive to a political solution;
12. dringt er bij de Turkse regering op aan om, als een zaak van prioriteit, een politiek initiatief te lanceren ten gunste van een duurzame regeling van de Koerdische kwestie, die uitsluitend gebaseerd kan zijn op tastbare verbeteringen van de culturele, economische en sociale kansen voor burgers van Koerdische afkomst, met inbegrip van reële mogelijkheden om Koerdisch te leren in het openbaar en particulier onderwijs en hiervan gebruik te maken bij de omroep, in het dagelijks leven en bij de toegang tot openbare diensten; beschouwt een mogelijk verbod van de Partij voor een Democratische Samenleving (DTP) als contraproductief bij het zoeken naar een politieke oplossing;

9. Welcomes the fact that the Turkish Government has introduced legal changes which enable schools to offer courses in mother tongues other than Turkish (Kurdish, Circassian, Armenian et al.), to broadcast media programs, open and operate stations which broadcast in other languages; calls on the Turkish Government to lift all remaining restrictions in the area of broadcasting and education in minority languages;
