TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

Community law has never sought to harmonise the field of social security, and the Member States have therefore retained their competences with regard to the organisation of their respective social security systems.
De bedoeling van deze verordening was niet de sociale zekerheid te harmoniseren; de lidstaten blijven dus zelf bepalen hoe hun socialezekerheidsstelsel georganiseerd wordt.

It is appropriate to include Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the coordination of social security systems (2), Regulation (EC) No 988/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 September 2009 amending Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems, and determining the content of its Annexes (3) and Regulation (EC) No 987/2009 of the European Parliament and Council of 16 September 2009 laying down the procedure for implementing Regulation (EC) No 883/2004 on the coordination of social security systems (4) in the EEA Agreement.

We need to move towards improved social security for all Europeans, towards a social security system that takes on board the best practices from the different systems, to improve coordination today and, who knows, harmonisation tomorrow.

As the Commissioner has said, the basic Regulation ((EC) No 883/2004) concerns the coordination, but not the harmonisation – and I want to make that clear – of social security systems between Member States for people who are living or working in another Member State or even simply travelling there.

Community provisions in the field of the co-ordination of social security systems do not harmonise, but only co-ordinate Member States' social security systems.

– (IT) Mr President, I also voted for the Communication: “The strategy for Europe’s internal market”, despite the fact that the text did not include the opinion drafted by Mr Medina Ortega on behalf of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, page 20 of which states that from the point of view of social security, the ideal of supplementary pensions requires the creation of a genuine European social security system – and I repeat, European social security system – to replace the current approach, which is based on the harmonisation of national systems.

De huidige aanpak is echter gebaseerd op een harmonisatie van de nationale stelsels.
