Deze toestand kan gevolgd worden door hetzij verdere terugtrekking uit de situatie (tot dissociatieve stupor toe - F44.2) of door agitatie en hyperactiviteit (vluchtreactie of fugue). Autonome tekenen van panische angst (tachycardie, zweten, blozen) zijn gewoonlijk aanwezig.
