C. whereas the newly elected President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, presented a plan for peaceful settlement of the crisis; whereas a Trilateral Contact Group of senior representatives of Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the OSCE is seeking ways for concrete progress towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict, based on the proposed peace plan and the joint statement by the Foreign Ministers of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine of 2 July 2014, that stressed the need for a sustainable ceasefire monitored by the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine;

1. Welcomes the fact that the consultations between the Contact Group and representatives of armed groups have resulted in a ceasefire agreement; welcomes the start of discussions between the Presidents of Ukraine and Russia, which have played a part in the breakthrough, and strongly encourages the continuation of these contacts; calls as a matter of urgency for the continuation of the negotiations with a view to finding a political solution to the conflict; supports the reinforcement of the role of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, including the monitoring of the existing ceasefire;

Supports, in this regard, the peace plan put forward by President Poroshenko, and calls for a new meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement in south-eastern Ukraine, with a view to introducing an immediate ceasefire under OSCE monitoring and providing Ukrainian border guards and OSCE personnel with access to border checkpoints on the Russian side in order to monitor the situation in areas where the Ukrainian border checkpoints have been seized by separatist groups;

It is being targeted at the Bong, Margibi and Grand Bassa districts bordering on the area around Monrovia controlled by the ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
