(2a) As regards food safety, EFSA has stressed the importance of acknowledging that the data base is limited, and in its 2008 opinion on animal cloning concluded: “Uncertainties in the risk assessment arise due to the limited number of studies available, the small sample sizes investigated and, in general, the absence of a uniform approach that would allow all the issues relevant to this opinion to be more satisfactorily addressed”.

(38) Food and feed falling within the scope of this Regulation which have been lawfully placed on the Community market before the date of application of this Regulation should continue to be allowed on the market, subject to the transmission to the Commission by the operators of information concerning the risk assessment, methods for sampling, identification and detection as appropriate, including the transmission of samples of the food and feed and their control samples within six months after the date of application of this Regulation.
(38) Levensmiddelen en diervoeders die binnen het toepassingsgebied van deze verordening vallen en vóór de datum van toepassing van deze verordening wettig in de Gemeenschap in de handel zijn gebracht, mogen in de handel blijven, mits de exploitanten de Europese Autoriteit voor voedselveiligheid binnen zes maanden na de toepassing van deze verordening informatie toezenden over de risicobeoordeling, de bemonsterings-, identificatie- en detectiemethoden voorzover van toepassing, alsmede monsters van het levensmiddel of diervoeder en bijbehorende controlemonsters.

(36 ) Existing authorisations and notifications for placing on the market genetically modified foods under Regulation (EC) No 258/97 and existing authorisations of genetically modified food and feed, granted under Directives 90/220/EEC and 2001/18/EC, Directive 82/471/EEC or Directive 70/524/EEC, should continue to remain in force, subject to that the European Food Safety Authority is provided with information concerning the risk assessment, methods for sampling and detection as appropriate, including samples of the food and feed and their control samples within six months of the entry into force of this Regulation.
(36) De bestaande vergunningen en mededelingen met betrekking tot het in de handel brengen van genetisch gemodificeerde levensmiddelen uit hoofde van Verordening (EG) nr. 258/97 en de bestaande vergunningen voor genetisch gemodificeerde levensmiddelen en diervoeders uit hoofde van de Richtlijnen 90/220/EEG en 2001/18/EG, Richtlijn 82/471/EEG of Richtlijn 70/524/EEG moeten geldig blijven, mits binnen zes maanden na de inwerkingtreding van deze verordening informatie aan de Europese Autoriteit voor Voedselveiligheid wordt verstrekt over de risicobeoordeling, de bemonsterings- en detectiemethoden voorzover van toepassing, alsmede monsters van het levensmiddel of diervoeder en bijbehorende controlemonsters.

- Methods of analysis, detection and control : The objective is to contribute to the development, improvement, validation and harmonisation of reliable and cost-effective strategies for sampling and measuring chemical contaminants and sequencing existing or emerging pathogenic and non-pathogenic micro-organisms (such as viruses, bacteria, mould, yeasts, fungi, parasites, and new agents of the prion type ), which will make it possible to develop tools to predict the emergence of the pathogenicity of micro-organisms, placing special emphasis on the introduction of HACCP (Hazard Assessment Critical Control Points) throughout the food chain , and in this regard, particularly the urgent need for the development and evaluation of reliable and more refined scientific methods and increased research into ante mortem diagnostic tests for BSE and scrapie .
