TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

25. Considers that SFM is essential to the continuing ability of EU forests to carry out economic, ecological and social functions; calls on the Commission and Member States to demonstrate their support for the Forest Europe process by making SFM implementation mandatory within the EU; considers, further, that such a commitment would help assimilate sustainability principles into forestry and serve as the best possible support for the Forest Europe process and the legally binding agreements being considered by Forest Europe and the United Nations Forum on Forests;
25. is van oordeel dat SFM essentieel is opdat de Europese bossen hun economische, ecologische en sociale functies kunnen blijven vervullen; roept de Commissie en de lidstaten ertoe op blijk te geven van hun steun voor het Forest Europe-proces door de hantering van SFM binnen de Europese Unie verplicht te maken; meent bovendien dat een dergelijk engagement zou bijdragen tot de opname van duurzaamheidsbeginselen in de bosbouw en de ideale ondersteuning zou vormen voor het Forest Europe-proces en voor de wettelijk bindende overeenkomsten waarover Forest Europe en het Bossenforum van de Verenigde Naties momenteel nadenken;

The European Union in fact believes that the Commission on Human Rights is the main United Nations forum for promoting and safeguarding human rights in the world, and it intends to continue to play an active part and to cooperate with other regional groups there. Important as the EU’s activities within the Commission on Human Rights may be, this is nevertheless not the only means at its disposal for promoting human rights.
De Europese Unie is namelijk van oordeel dat de Commissie voor de rechten van de mens het belangrijkste instrument van de Verenigde Naties vormt om de mensenrechten in de hele wereld te bevorderen en te beschermen. De EU is van plan een actieve rol in deze commissie te blijven spelen en er samen te werken met andere regionale groepen.

In preparation of the first session of the United Nations Forum on Forestry (UNFF 1) in June 2001 the Council adopted the following Council conclusions :

(6 ) The Sixth Environment Action Programme of the European Community identifies the need to base the formulation , implementation and evaluation of environmental policies on a knowledge-based approach and, in particular, the need to monitor the multiple roles of forests in line with recommendations adopted by the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, the United Nations Forum on Forests, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and other fora.
(6) In het zesde milieuactieprogramma van de Europese Gemeenschap wordt vastgesteld dat het noodzakelijk is bij uitwerking, uitvoering en evaluatie van milieubeleidsmaatregelen uit te gaan van een op kennis gebaseerde benadering en in het bijzonder de meervoudige taken van bossen te bewaken overeenkomstig de aanbevelingen van de ministeriële conferenties over de bescherming van bossen in Europa, het bossenforum van de Verenigde Naties, het Verdrag inzake biodiversiteit, het Raamverdrag van de Verenigde Naties inzake klimaatverandering en andere fora.

improving existing Community measures which protect forests and implementing sustainable forest management inter alia through national forest programmes, in connection with rural development plans, with increased emphasis on the monitoring of the multiple roles of forests in line with recommendations adopted by the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe and the United Nations Forum on Forests and the Convention on Biodiversity and other fora;

2. The Council welcomes the ECOSOC Resolution E/2000/L.35, which sets out the goals, objectives and principal functions of the international arrangement on forests and establishes the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) and calls for the formation of a Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) between the relevant organisations of the United Nations system and other relevant international and regional organisations, institutions and instruments.
2. De Raad verheugt zich over ECOSOC-resolutie E/2000/L.35 waarin de oogmerken, doelstellingen en hoofdfuncties van de Internationale regeling inzake bossen zijn vastgesteld en die voorziet in de oprichting van het VN-Bossenforum (UNFF) en hij roept op tot de instelling van een Samenwerkingspartnerschap inzake bossen (CPF) tussen de terzake bevoegde organisaties van de Verenigde Naties en andere relevante internationale en regionale organisaties, instellingen en instrumenten.

In particular the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), International Tropical Timber Agreement (ITTA) and the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (MCPFE).
