– (FR) Mr President, Mrs Győri, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, I have one thing to say, a word which is perhaps in stark contrast with the current economic situation, but one which needs to be stressed all the more. That word is ‘ambition’: ambition for the internal market, Commissioner, ambition for Europe, ambition to prove to citizens that European integration is a step forward for their rights, their rights as workers, as consumers, as tourists, but, more generally, as individuals.
– (FR) Mijnheer de Voorzitter, mevrouw Győri, commissaris, geachte collega’s, ik heb één ding te zeggen, een woord dat wellicht in schril contrast staat met de huidige conjunctuur, maar dat daarom des te meer moet worden benadrukt, en dat is ‘ambitie’: ambitie voor de interne markt, commissaris, ambitie voor Europa, ambitie om de burgers te laten zien dat Europese eenwording een stap vooruit is voor hun rechten, als werknemer, als consument, als toerist, maar meer in algemene zin ook als individu.
