Speaking today in Brussels at a Conference on the Modernisation of Public Services, Mr Padraig Flynn, Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs underlined the economic and social importance of the public sector in the European Union: it is estimated to employ almost 25 million people i.e. 15% of the active population in areas such as welfare and public health, transport, energy and water supplies, posts and telecommunications, science and education, finance, environmental protection, police and justice or administation.
In zijn vandaag gehouden toespraak tijdens een Conferentie over de modernisering van overheidsdiensten benadrukte de heer Padraig Flynn, de met werkgelegenheid en sociale zaken belaste Commissaris, het economische en sociale belang van de overheidssector in de Europese Unie: naar schatting vinden hier bijna 25 miljoen mensen, d.w.z. 15% van de actieve bevolking, een baan op terreinen zoals de welzijnssector en de volksgezondheid, vervoer, energie- en watervoorziening, post en telecommunicatie, wetenschappen en onderwijs, financiën, milieubescherming, politie en justitie of administratie.
