IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

With a view to further harmonising different procedures for the authorisation of food, the safety assessment of novel foods and their inclusion in the Union list should be carried out in accordance with the procedure laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1331/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008 establishing a common authorisation procedure for food additives, food enzymes and food flavourings , which should be applicable whenever it is not specifically derogated from by this Regulation. Upon receipt of an application for authorisation of a product as a novel food, the Commission should assess the validity and applicability of the application.
Met het oog op verdere harmonisatie van de verschillende goedkeuringsprocedures voor levensmiddelen moeten de veiligheidsbeoordeling voor nieuwe voedingsmiddelen en de opname ervan op de Unielijst plaatsvinden in overeenstemming met de procedure van Verordening (EG) nr. 1331/2008 van het Europees Parlement en de Raad van 16 december 2008 tot vaststelling van een uniforme goedkeuringsprocedure voor levensmiddelenadditieven, voedingsenzymen en levensmiddelenaroma's , die van toepassing moet zijn behalve wanneer deze verordening er specifiek van afwijkt. Wanneer de Commissie een aanvraag tot goedkeuring van een product als nieuw voedingsmiddel ontvangt, dient zij de geldigheid en de toepasselijkheid van de aanvraag te onderzoeken.

(EN) Before food additives are approved for use within the European Community they must first be evaluated for safety by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety (OJ L 31, 1.2.2002, p. 1). Verordening (EG) nr. 178/2002 van het Europees Parlement en de Raad van 28 januari 2002 tot vaststelling van de algemene beginselen en voorschriften van de levensmiddelenwetgeving, tot oprichting van een Europese Autoriteit voor voedselveiligheid en tot vaststelling van procedures voor voedselveiligheidsaangelegenheden (PB L 31 van 1.2.2002, blz. 1), als laatstelijk gewijzigd bij Verordening (EG) nr. 575/2006 van de Commissie (PB L 100 van 8.4.2006, blz. 3).

The Commission, together with the new European Food Authority, will promote a dialogue with consumers to encourage their involvement in the new Food Safety policy.
