TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

To meet this responsibility, the EU and other signatories of the 1992 United Nations' "Rio declaration" committed themselves, at the 19th Special Session of the United Nations' General Assembly in 1997, to draw up strategies for sustainable development in time for the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development.
Om zich van deze verantwoordelijkheid te kwijten hebben de EU en de overige ondertekenaars van de van 1992 daterende VN-Verklaring van Rio zich er tijdens de 19e bijzondere zitting van de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties in 1997 toe verbonden strategieën voor duurzame ontwikkeling uit te werken vóór de in 2002 te houden Wereldconferentie inzake duurzame ontwikkeling.

In 2001 a broad Strategy for Sustainable Development was launched by the European Council in Gothenburg and in 2002 its external dimension was defined in Barcelona, ahead of the UN’s World Summit on Sustainable Development in the summer of 2002.

The EU will support and promote mainstreaming of adaptation concerns and national action plans for climate change reported in national communications or national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs), where they exist, into strategic frameworks such as national strategies for sustainable development (nssds) and PRSPs.

The Campaign addresses all main sustainable energy sectors that contribute to the Community Strategy on Sustainable Development and aims at fostering implementation of Community legislation on sustainable energy, as well as national and local measures, by supporting industry, energy agencies, associations and consumers’ activities[20].
