The European Advisory Committee on Statistical Information in the Economic and Social Spheres set up by Council Decision 91/116/EEC currently assists the Council and the Commission in the coordination of the objectives of the Community’s statistical information policy, taking into account user requirements and the costs borne by information providers and producers.

The measures necessary for the implementation of this Decision should be adopted in accordance with Council Decision 1999/468/EC of 28 June 1999 laying down the procedures for the exercise of implementing powers conferred on the Commission , with a distinction being made between those measures which are subject to the management committee procedure and those which are subject to the advisory committee procedure, the advisory committee procedure being in certain cases, with a view to increased efficiency, the more appropriate.

This coordination requires the continued efforts, within the Advisory Committee for Coordination of the Fight against Fraud , of the Counterfeit Coin Experts Group, comprising the experts in charge of the CNAC and ETSC, which the Commission manages and chairs, while providing periodic information to the EFC.

1. An Advisory Committee for the Coordination of Social Security Systems (hereinafter referred to as Advisory Committee) is hereby established, comprising, from each Member State:

(6) In view of the tasks of the Advisory Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture renewed by Commission Decision 1999/478/EC, which is composed of representatives of a wide range of European organisations and interests, the work of the Regional Advisory Councils should be coordinated with that of the Advisory Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture, to which it should also send its reports. Furthermore there should be a regular exchange of information between Regional Advisory Councils and national bodies as well as with the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) .
(6) Gelet op de taken van het bij Besluit 1999/478/EG van de Commissie vernieuwde Raadgevend Comité voor de visserij en de aquacultuur (RCVA), dat bestaat uit vertegenwoordigers van een grote verscheidenheid aan Europese organisaties en belangengroepen, moeten de werkzaamheden van de regionale adviesraden worden gecoördineerd met die van het RCVA, waaraan zij tevens hun verslagen moeten toesturen; bovendien moet geregeld informatie worden uitgewisseld tussen regionale adviesraden en nationale organen, alsmede met de Internationale Raad voor het Onderzoek van de Zee (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, ICES) .

The abolition of the advisory committees has raised concern amongst the regulated professions, as it is alleged that a single committee would not be able to maintain a sufficient level of consumer protection in managing the function of the principle of automatic recognition.
