TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

During my term of office in the German Bundestag I was a member, inter alia, of the Trust Agency (Treuhand) Investigation Committee set up to look into the trust agency’s activities in dealing with the former state property of the GDR.

I would therefore like to insert the following in Recital J:

The Commission examined the application of these schemes to the steel industry in the former GDR with the provisions of the Steel Aids Code, and in particular its Article 5, which allows aid under general regional investment aid schemes to be granted to steel undertakings in the former GDR if the aid is accompanied by a reduction in the overall production capacity of that territory.

The projects eligible for assistance are those drawn up by private firms in the former GDR which were, taking the average for the years 1990 and 1991, at least one-third dependent on eastern bloc trade and which are located in regions with an actual unemployment rate of over 30% or with particularly high female unemployment.
