Thus it comes as no surprise that monitoring and control by the European "Assembly" (now officially "Parliament" since the adoption of the Single Act) was not a strong feature of the Euratom Treaty, although, ironically, it can be plausibly argued that it is precisely in these areas that the public most feels the need for rigorous democratic scrutiny, control and accountability.
Het is dan ook niet verwonderlijk dat toezicht en controle door de "Vergadering" (sinds de Europese Akte: het Europees Parlement) geen hoofdpunt was van het Euratom-Verdrag, hoewel, ironisch genoeg, met recht en reden kan worden gesteld dat het publiek van mening is dat juist op deze terreinen zorgvuldig democratisch toezicht, alsmede controle en verantwoording dringend noodzakelijk zijn.
