In the longer run, there is no reason why aircrafts should have sophisticated communication, navigation and automation, and not ships, trains or cars. New technologies coming to market in the near future will gradually provide new services to citizens and allow improved real-time management of traffic movements and capacity use, as well as the tracing and tracking of flows for environmental and security purposes. In addition to the obvious benefits to transport operators and clients, new systems will provide public administration with rapid and detailed information on infrastructure and maintenance needs. They will not only enhance driving comfort but also help to increase safety and security and to tackle wasteful transport patterns in the interest of environmental sustainability. The Galileo Supervisory Authority is being set up; the Galileo satellite system will be operational from 2010 and provide navigation signals to be combined with ground- or space-based communication. The development of a European open architecture will ensure interoperability and the flexible development of future applications for all transport modes.
Op lange termijn is er geen enkele reden waarom alleen vliegtuigen zouden worden uitgerust met geavanceerde communicatiesystemen, navigatieapparatuur en automatisering en dat niet het geval zou zijn voor schepen, treinen of auto’s. Naast de duidelijke voordelen voor vervoersexploitanten en hun klanten zullen de nieuwe systemen de overheid snel en gedetailleerd informeren over de noden inzake infrastructuur en onderhoud. Ze zullen niet alleen zorgen voor meer rijcomfort maar ook voor meer veiligheid en beveiliging en voor een duurzamer milieu door af te rekenen met verspilling in het vervoer. Er wordt een toezichtautoriteit voor Galileo opgericht; het Galileo satellietsysteem zal vanaf 2010 operationeel zijn en navigatiesignalen bieden in combinatie met communicatiesystemen vanop de grond of via satelliet. Selection and evaluation criteria In order to be selected, the tourist destinations had to meet as many as possible of the following criteria: . drafting and implementation of a tourism development plan which respected the environment; . measures to ensure improved distribution of the flows of visitors over time and space; . innovative measures for the management of natural resources; . effective cooperation between the public and private operators concerned, and between the various administrative levels; . protection of natural sites; . restoration of run-down buildings and sites; . programmes for reducing nuisances, such as noise, pollution, waste etc.; . specifications for architecture and decoration for integrating buildings and infrastructure into the environment; . tourism/environment training programme for persons working in the sector; . awareness campaigns on environmental protection for visitors and inhabitants; . scrupulous respect for national and European legislation on sustainable tourism and the environment.
Selectie- en evaluatiecriteria Bij de selectie van de zich aanmeldende bestemmingen werd met name nagegaan in welke mate zij aan de hierna volgende criteria voldeden: - ontwerp en tenuitvoerlegging van een milieuvriendelijk ontwikkelingsplan voor het toerisme; - maatregelen voor een betere verdeling van bezoekersstromen in tijd en ruimte; - innovatieve maatregelen voor het behoud van de natuurlijke hulpbronnen; - efficiënte samenwerking tussen de betrokken publieke en particuliere instanties en tussen de verschillende bestuurslagen; - bescherming van natuurgebieden; - restauratie van vervallen gebouwen en monumenten; - programma's voor de vermindering van overlast: geluid, vervuiling, afval .; - bestekken voor architectuur en decoratie voor de integratie van gebouwen en voorzieningen in hun omgeving; - opleidingsprogramma "Toerisme en Milieu" ten behoeve van degenen die in de toeristische sector werkzaam zijn; - bevordering van het milieubewustzijn van bezoekers en lokale bevolking; - nauwgezette naleving van de nationale en Europese wetgeving inzake duurzaam toerisme en milieu.
