Urges the Member States to step up their cooperation with the ECDC in the area of the prevention and control of HAIs; encourages national authorities in particular to ask the ECDC to carry out regular in situ audits and to publish the reports submitted to them by the ECDC, and emphasises, in that connection, the need to ensure, under future multiannual financial frameworks, that the ECDC receives the adequate funding that it needs to fulfil its coordination and monitoring remit;

Stresses that sound information on the use of antimicrobials in some Member States is still lacking; emphasises the importance of establishing an effective European network of national surveillance systems in the human health and veterinary sectors, based on uniform standards for all Member States, in order to compile clear, comparable, transparent and timely reference data on antimicrobial drug usage; believes this should be based on the existing monitoring networks operated by EFSA, the ECDC European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption Network (ESAC-net), the ECDC European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network (EARS-net), the ECDC Food- and Waterborne Disease Network (FWD-Net), and the EMA European Surveillance of Veterinary Antimicrobial Consumption (ESVAC);

Action n° 9: Strengthen surveillance systems on AMR and antimicrobial consumption in human medicine With the support of the ECDC, assess ways to improve access to data on AMR at all levels (regional, local and hospitals). Ensure the efficient transfer of the ESAC project to ECDC to secure the sustainability of the project. With the support of the ECDC, support and monitor the successful development of the new EU funded surveillance project ARPEC – Antibiotic Resistance and Prescribing in European Children.
