The extension of the Article 90 directive must be seen in the context of the following points: * the benefits of services liberalisation in the multi-media context will not be realised without liberalsiation of available CATV network capacity *Many of the Member States, also the most important in terms of the EUs telecoms markets, urged the Commission at the last Telecoms Council to present proposals as soon as possible for rapid liberalisation of CATV networks.
De uitbreiding van de richtlijn op grond van artikel 90 moet tegen de achtergrond van de volgende overwegingen worden geplaatst : * de liberalisering van multimediadiensten zal slechts effect sorteren indien ook de beschikbare kabelcapaciteit wordt geliberaliseerd * Vele van de Lid-Staten, ook de Lid-Staten met de grootste telecommunicatiemarkten van de EU, hebben er tijdens de laatste Telecommunicatieraad bij de Commissie op aangedrongen, zo spoedig mogelijk voorstellen te presenteren voor een snelle liberalisering van de kabelnetten.
